GovToKnow is committed to WCAG 2.1 AA conformance and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Last Updated: June 2026

Our Commitment

POLITY is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards to provide equal access to all users.

Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible for people with disabilities and more usable for everyone.

Measures We Take

  • Skip navigation link at the top of every page
  • Landmark regions (main, nav, header, footer) on all pages
  • Proper heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3) throughout
  • Sufficient color contrast — minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text
  • All interactive elements keyboard-accessible with visible focus indicators
  • ARIA roles, states, and properties on all custom widgets
  • Meaningful text alternatives for all non-text content
  • Animations that respect prefers-reduced-motion
  • Form fields with associated labels, aria-required, aria-invalid, and linked error messages
  • Error messages announced via role="alert"

Compatibility

Our website is designed to be compatible with:

  • Current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge
  • Screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality

Known Limitations

  • Third-party integrations: Some third-party components (e.g., reCAPTCHA, Google Analytics, calendar scheduling) may not fully meet our standards. We work with vendors to improve accessibility where possible.
  • PDF documents: Some downloadable documents may not be fully accessible. Contact us to request an alternative format.
  • Three.js hero animation: The animated background on our homepage is decorative and marked aria-hidden="true". It is suppressed automatically for users who have enabled prefers-reduced-motion.
